Yui grew up in a home of traditional values in Hida, Japan. Relationship with her father was very difficult, as him being against her interest to masculine hobbies such as bikes and racing. Instead, she was very close with her grandmother who supported her interests, studying her grandfather’s engineer manuals on car and motorcycle engines, maintaining her scooter and modifying its engine to race along with local motocrossers,her grandfather’s lucky hachimaki wrapped around her arm, she made easy winnings.
As time became to apply for higher education, she confessed her interest in motorsports to her father - which resulted him to dismiss her from the family.
Heartbroken, she left for Nagoya, with blessings and savings from her grandmother.
However, living there wasn’t easy: without education, she could only get small jobs as a waitress or a hostess. With the savings, she eventually purchased a racing bike and entered illegal races, where she finally found success in form of winning prizes of more money than she had ever had. As her name grew, a group of women bikers formed around her, and became to wear pink, her signature color.
Along with fame became trouble in form of a stalker been to her apartment and stolen her grandfather’s hachimaki. Her distress was ignored by the police as a nonesense, excused as someone merely being interested in her. Soon came the night she was assaulted with a knife by the stalker in her own apartment - and in the struggle, wounded and worn, she managed to snatch the knife and stab him in the neck.
Hospitalized, and after, she was aided by her gang to recover and cover the medical bills - By this, Yui was inspired to help women with her winnings and influence. The gang became known as Sakura 7 Gang, wearing pink hachimakis as a symbol of unity and support for women needing help from stalkers and abusers, fighting for women’s empowerment.
